A confrontation with police officers is often nerve-wracking even if only a minor infraction has occurred. Unfortunately, when faced with such a predicament, many people may panic and react in a way that could make life more complicated for them. In fact, a man in North Carolina was recently arrested on drug charges -- among others -- after police say he led them on a chase.
The incident that led to the man's arrest reportedly happened on a day in mid-April. Police claim that they noticed a driver pulling out of a parking lot onto a North Carolina road; the registration, according to reports, had been revoked. When officers attempted to pull over the driver -- later identified as a 27-year-old man -- they say that he fled. During the chase that allegedly ensued, the man is said to have driven through a yard before heading south in the northbound lanes of a North Carolina roadway.
Police say that they followed the man from the southbound lanes; unfortunately, the man's vehicle reportedly struck another. The driver of the second vehicle was walking at the scene but was transported to the hospital to be evaluated. The man now charged was reportedly trapped in the vehicle he was driving and suffered serious injuries. In addition to being charged with possession of heroin drug paraphernalia, the man is charged with careless and reckless driving, speeding to elude arrest, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and driving on a revoked license. Police also claim they discovered property in the vehicle believed to be stolen.
In addition to the charges stemming from this incident, the man also reportedly had several other warrants for his arrest. Unfortunately, he is facing a complex legal situation that he may feel unprepared to respond to on his own. Many people who have found themselves in a similar situation have opted to seek guidance from an attorney who has experience with drug charges and other allegations.
